Assignment Zone 2008 (possibility #1)

This 2008 Assignment Zone #1 is different from all the others that will be announced at a later date. The intentions for this A-Z #1 are that our members can use their creativity in a no pressure situation right within their own home. We do count on some bad weather in the next few months so that the Assignment Zone becomes a welcome activity in the warmth of our own surroundings.

So, set up a table somewhere in the house, preferably in an area that is little used, and where the table can remain until the project is finished. Thanks to our digital cameras the lighting that we need is rather inexpensive. A cheap clip-on work light with a regular bulb of 100 to 200 watts will do. Buy 2 or 3 of those lights in a Hardware store and use different wattage bulbs for whatever effect you want to achieve (main or fill in light etc). This is the “poor people” setup and it is just right for those of us that do not do tabletop photography all the time. With film we had to worry about the color temperature of our lighting but with our digital cameras we can adjust the White Balance on our camera before taking the image. (See your camera manual) We also can correct our images later on in the computer.

This recommendation about a table top set-up does not mean that you have to do it that way. It is only intended to get you started in your creative thinking. Once you start on the project you will develop other ideas like photographing outside using your lawn as a background, or setting up on the roof of your downtown penthouse. Who knows how high your creative juices will flow.

This is the first possibility to participate in the 2008 Assignment Zone competition:

1. You need 10 digital images “Promoting Photography” to participate.

2. You need to get or select from your home inventory: a camera, a CD or DVD disk, a picture album, a blue ribbon, a picture frame, a monitor, and a computer mouse.

3. You need to show a minimum of 3 of those items in each of your images that you submit. When you show an item again in another image, it must be the same item. No substitutes.

4. You may include anything you want to in your images as long as the required 3 items are prominently visible in your final entries.

5. There are no purist or manipulation restrictions except that the entries must still be recognizable.

6.     This Assignment Zone #1 has no time/date restrictions except that the 10 images must be submitted in regular competition size by September 11th 2008 via e-mail or disk.

You can use this Assignment Zone #1 as a back-up in case you can not make it to the other Assignment Zone locations or if you find out that you did not do too well at any of the other locations. However, you can only submit one (1) Assignment Zone.

The other Assignment Zones will be selected and published at a later date.
