Programs
There are about 7 program nights per year held on the 4th Thursday of each month (see below for summer and holiday exceptions). Programs may consist of member or guest presentations such as slide shows (digital or slides), speakers about something photographic, computer or photographic set up learning workshops, group critiques of images, etc. Members showing their own images receive competition points toward their annual total.
January 21, 2010* – Program: Software Programs, Picasa and Capture NX
The second part of the program will be presented by Al McLeod & Darryl Neill. They will talk about a Nikon program, Capture NX. Capture NX software releases not only the power of Nikon's Electronic Format (NEF) files, but for the first time, it makes JPEG and TIFF processing and editing elegant and easy enough for any photographer to use.
*Due to a schedule conflict with our meeting space, we had to reschedule this program from the typical 4th Thursday of the month to Thursday, January 21, 2010.
February 25, 2010 – Program: Members Critique
Deadline is February 22. We have done this before and everyone seems to really enjoy it, so get those pictures ready and send them in!
March 25, 2010 – Program: Special guest, Daren Schiff from MyPhotoPipe.com, plus...
Darren Schiff from My Photo Pipe will make a 30 minute presentation, show samples and hand out introductory coupons at our regular program meeting, Thursday, March 25 at 7:30 PM. My Photo Pipe makes prints up to wall size from digital files using Fuji Crystal Archive and Kodak Endura photographic papers and other products. These are the latest and greatest color printing papers from Fuji and Kodak, and offer tremendous archival life along with the beauty to be expected from individually crafted traditional photo papers. The Pipe is a commercial and professional lab with advanced capabilities and unbeatable emphasis on quality. This might be an advantageous source for your display or competition prints, certainly worth learning about, and worth a trial. They are located just across I-85 from our meeting place, on the southbound access road.
Since Darren said he'd need only a half hour, that leaves an opening for a another (member?) program of a half hour or so to follow our refreshment break that same evening. If you have a program idea, perhaps to include showing some of your own work, please contact Don Stephens at vividon@charter.net or 770-967-2788. Please volunteer and share your ideas.
We are planning special APS 40th Anniversary program and activities for the April 22nd meeting, but as of now the May and June fourth-Thursday meetings are still open for new programs. Programs are intended to be informative, educational, and to broaden our photographic horizons. There will be no fourth-Thursday meetings in July or August, but keep APS in mind for your program ideas starting again in the fall.
April 22, 2010 – Program: Photographic Art in the Digital Age
The celebration will showcase an exhibit of winning images submitted by club members over the past 40 years. A competition among these images will earn one member the Best in Show and an anniversary medallion to be presented during the celebration.
Wine and cheese to follow the exhibit outside the sanctuary

May 27, 2010 – Program: Member Presentation
The “On the Edge” group was a group within the Alpine Camera Club (our former name) and those members concentrated on abstract photography. Mind you, that was the age before digital cameras, Photoshop and all those nifty software programs, and abstract photography required a lot of imagination and ingenuity to take those images. Ruth and Mario will lead a discussion of abstract and macro photography after the presentation.
The 2nd half of the evening will have some mystery presentations by members Glen Lopez, Jack Martin, and Janerio Morgan.
June 24, 2010 – Program: Lighting Demo
Bob Fitzgibbons from Showcase will be our guest speaker June 24. He will cover flash and continuous light for digital photography, and will demonstrate lighting equipment and techniques stressing practical approaches to lighting from built-in flash to shoe mount flash, both on- and off-camera, to the new photographic daylight balanced compact florescent light units.
Models will be picked from the audience, so comb your hair and wear a nice shirt or blouse! Don't miss this educational program.
